community engagement and economic development manager

The Community Engagement and Economic Development Manager will be responsible for supporting the overall economic development, business community engagement, place keeping, special events, and commercial district stabilization and revitalization efforts for the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. Duties include planning and implementing economic and community development initiatives, capital projects, as well as strategic and special projects that attract and retain culturally relevant businesses that meet the needs of the community. Will perform a variety of planning and research work, including activities related to job growth/retention, data collection & analysis, transportation, general community development, economic resiliency, and quality of life. Work involves developing local and/or regional level programs, acquiring and deepening relationships with economic development professionals, communities, and councils; developing procedures for implementing and measuring progress made on operational plans or programs. As a resident-led and responsive organization, the Community and Economic Development Planner for NWSCDC will rely on community relations and engagement in establishing goals and priorities within and outside of the organization, promoting the business and economic development interests of the community. This position will pay $55k-$60k/yr with full benefits.

Corridor Ambassador

The Community Ambassador promotes community safety and neighborhood engagement by providing a visible, non-law enforcement safety presence along commercial corridors in Belmont Cragin. Community Ambassadors engage, assist, and inform community members and visitors of Belmont Cragin while building relationships with business owners to create a positive, and safe shopping experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct outreach: Work with fellow team members and Lead Ambassador to build rapport with businesses and residents through direct outreach and engagement.

  • Provide concierge-level Customer service; greet passers-by, providing directions, and providing safety escorts.

  • Support community events in partnership with Belmont Cragin’s Rapid Response team, provide a presence at community events or festivals.

  • Provide referrals: Share information on upcoming programming, activities, social service resources.

  • Promote safety: Connect with public safety resources, including the Chicago Police Department, on security and safety needs and report illegal or unwanted activity, as deemed appropriate by the NWSCDC. Check on individuals in public spaces
